Return on the rise of François Demachy

François Demachy was born in 1949 in Cannes. Her father was not a perfumer but a pharmacist. On the other hand, he was brought up not far from there, in Grasse, a Mediterranean town recognized as the world capital of perfumery. However, he did not direct himself in this direction from the start but opted for studies as a dentist and then as a physiotherapist. In order to pay for his studies, he entered the factories of the Mane house, a very famous brand manufacturing raw materials for perfumes. This experience turned his life upside down and made him join the Charabot school of perfumery. Once his diploma in hand, barely five years later, he was recruited by Chanel perfumes under the responsibility of Henri Robert. Likewise, it is within this brand that he worked with Jacques Polge, learning the basics of perfumery alongside the greats. His career within this great brand was long and he spent nearly 30 years at Chanel before turning to a position of director of olfactory development at LVMH for Christian Dior perfumes. In addition, he has been Dior’s exclusive perfumer since 2006.

François Demachy considers this position at Dior to be a real consecration. Thus, he lives his profession with passion and spends most of his time in the middle of the 2,500 samples of ingredients in the laboratory of the house in Grasse. Today, he is considered to be one of the best alchemists of his time, perpetuating the tradition of historical know-how and assembling it with innovative materials and avant-garde techniques. His daring spirit combined with his respect for traditions make him one of the most renowned perfumers in the world. His sources of inspiration are numerous. In addition, it is he who is at the origin of Dior Homme Cologne, Miss Dior, Dior Addict, Dior Homme, Cuir Cannage, or the last Sauvage de Dior to name a few. Thus, he seems to have fully adopted the motto of Christian Dior himself: “Do the best possible and never be satisfied.”
